It’s red carpet season, and we know what you are thinking about. Are you looking to achieve that perfect, glowing skin that only celebrities seem to have? Then look no further. Spoiler alert: it’s never just genetics, hydration, and expensive creams. We formally welcome you to the magical world of chemical peels ✨
What Exactly is a Chemical Peel?
Think of your skin as an onion. A chemical peel peels away the old, tired layers to reveal the fresh, youthful skin underneath. Like hitting a reset button for your face, you may say. Doesn’t it sound exciting? Here’s how it works:
During your chemical peel appointment, our highly trained staff will apply a solution to your skin that will cause it to exfoliate and eventually peel off those rusty layers. Your new skin underneath will be smoother, less wrinkled, and have fewer signs of damage. New year, new me? Then give your skin a fresh start too!
Different Types of Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are usually divided into 3 categories, each with its own unique benefits and intensity levels:
-
Superficial Peels
These are the most gentle. They use mild acids like alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) to gently exfoliate the outermost layer of skin. Perfect for a quick pick-me-up, these peels can improve the appearance of mild skin discoloration and rough skin. Think of them as the skin equivalent of light dusting.
-
Medium Peels
These go a bit deeper, using trichloroacetic or glycolic acid to reach the middle layers of your skin. Great for tackling wrinkles, fine lines, and uneven skin tone. If your skin needs a little bit more TLC, a medium peel may be right up your alley.
-
Deep Peels
The heavy hitters of the peel world. Stronger acids like phenol are used to penetrate deep into the skin. It’s the best option for dramatic results, like treating deeper wrinkles, scars, or precancerous growths. Note that they come with a longer recovery time and are usually performed only once.
What to Expect? The Process Explained
This is what goes down during a chemical peel appointment at Gearity Wellness Center:
You will be lying down in a comfy chair, while one of our seasoned professionals will apply the peel solution to your face. During this stage, you may feel a slight tingling sensation. That means that the acid is working its magic ✨ breaking down the bonds that hold dead skin cells together. After a few minutes (or longer, depending on your peel of choice) the solution will be neutralized and washed off. And that’s it! You can say hi to radiant skin.
The whole process takes between 30 minutes to an hour, again, depending on the peel. If you go for superficial peels, those are quick and easy ( there’s a reason why they call them “Lunchtime peels”, right?) Medium and deep peels often take longer and may require some downtime until you recover.
