What to Expect
Before your injection session, your provider will assess your medical history to determine whether Sculptra injection is suitable to achieve your desired goals and develop a face map and treatment plan. Also, they will conduct vision assessments.
Because Sculptra’s effects are gradual, the first treatment session is aimed at limited correction—you will see gradual improvement as the effects occur, under supervision of your provider.
- On the day of the session, your make up will be removed and the face will be cleansed with antiseptic solution.
- Your provider will mark the treatment area and mapping with a water-soluble pencil on your skin.
- To reduce pain on the injection site, they will apply an ice pack or anesthesia.
- The injection session typically lasts between 30 to 60 minutes, including the time for the numbing agent to take effect.
- Normally, at the end of the session you will experience a degree of swelling due to the water solution in the injection. As a result, the area will appear fully corrected, however, that swelling typically resolved in several hours, resulting in the reappearance of the partially corrected look.
- Wrinkle deficiency and volume loss will take a couple of weeks to improve as the effects occur.
Sculptra Treatment Recommendations
- For correction of nasolabial fold contour deficiencies, we recommend a treatment interval of at least three to four weeks between injection sessions.
- For correction of other facial wrinkles, we recommend a minimum treatment interval of three weeks between sessions.
- For correction of fine lines and wrinkles in the cheeks, we recommend a minimum treatment interval of four weeks between sessions.
Post-Treatment Care
- Once the injection is provided, your provider will massage the previously moisturized area to evenly distribute the formula for a minimum of two minutes.
- You may experience redness, swelling, and/ or light bruising in the area immediately after the injection. You should apply a cloth-wrapped ice pack to reduce risk of edema and for swelling to subside.
- To promote natural-looking correction, we recommend massaging the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day for 5 days after the session.
